These are a few of my favorite things

Life has been in overdrive super speed the last month and I have not had the opportunity to update. Just some things that I have been wanting to share:

Two of my favorite people. If anything, I can always count on them to make me smile. :) Thanksgiving was great. It was hard, however, we had so much to be thankful for amongst the rucuss of the year. We were so thankful for family and that we could all be together ... even if one was in a hospital bed and someone else by his side 24/7. This past year we have been shown how blessed we are as Hemken's. Family pulled together so much to help out, care, share, show their selflessness and be what we are called to be ... there for one another. Grandpa got to come home the following Tuesday. I was able to go stay with him and grandma for a week to make sure they were settled in and that grandma understood "hospice". Grandpa does not like that they have to help but he has come to realize he needs to accept it for grandma's sake. Grandma was in denial of so much of what is going on, but is slowly coming to terms of it all. The rest of the family knows that we need to let him go when He calls him there. With him suffering and in pain is not how we like to see him. It is not grandpa anymore. Every once in a while there is a glimmer about him and a conversation or so every few days that is him, but for the most part our grandpa is already home.

Some snapshots from the Christmas celebrations ....

We got our hair cut the same way and we were so excited about it! :)

Mother makes homemade pizza every year. She has done this for as long as I can remember. Kyleigh decided to join in on the tradition of making it this year. She is quite the italian already at 5!

CR was super excited about his coffee cake!

So in April the doctor told my dad that it would be a miracle for us to have grandpa till Christmas. We thought we were gonna lose him in his November bout at the hospital. But PRAISE GOD, He gave us a miracle Christmas!
